Dear Writers, Readers and Friends!
It’s time to wrap up this literary month with two events not to be missed! The first is the Annual Sacramento Poetry Center Fundraiser at the home of Mimi and Burnett Miller, THIS Thursday, 11/29, 6-8 pm (1224 40th Street in Sacramento; donation $30/$20 members). I hope you’ll attend to support poetry in Sacramento as you enjoy readings by new Sacramento Poet Laureate Jeff Knorr and long-time favorite Victoria Dalkey as well as music by my very own Foothills Wind Quintet (did you know I play classical clarinet?). In addition, I am honored to have been asked to donate a very limited-edition broadside of one of my poems to the raffle. See you there?
Next, make your way out to the final Stories on Stage of 2012, this Friday 11/30, featuring two pieces from curator Valerie Fioravanti’s new book, Gabage Night at the Opera. I hope to see you there, at Sacramento Poetry Center (17th and R Streets in Sac), where doors open at 7:00 pm for the 7:30 show (donation $5 with all proceeds paying the performers). Valerie’s newsletter says: “Sue Staats will be guest-hosting for the evening, and local musician Katie Knipp will entertain us during intermission. Need another reason to come to the last event of the season? Peggi Wood is making nutella fudge and chocolate merlot cookies.” Come down and join the party!
On Sunday, 12/2, I hope to attend the Avid Reader (Sacramento)’s reading, at which Lucille Lang Day will read from her memoir, Married at Fourteen: A True Story, and Susan Kelly-DeWitt will read from her poetry, including her most recent collection, The Fortunate Islands. This event starts at 2:00 pm at Avid (Broadway and 16th, at the Tower).
See you out and about?
Yours in writing,
Kate
